It is important that rabbits are fed an appropriate diet from a young age. Poor feeding early in life can lead to problems later on, including dental disease and urinary problems.
Ideally, rabbits should be fed a diet consisting mainly of grass and good quality hay. A small amount of pelleted food can be offered alongside this, but should not make up the main part of the diet.
Traditional museli-style diets may look attractive but are not ideal for rabbits as they will eat selectively and choose the sweetest tasting parts of the diet, leaving those higher in fibre and nutrients.
